In short terms, you will just feel AT HOME staying at the Tavira Inn. And Sebastao has got the best plans for good and typical restaurants in the area. Much better than Lonely Planet or other unupdated guides! Don't wait for breakfast though and enjoy sleeping until midday ;-) Tavira is a lovely place, (relatively) quiet and close to the sea. You shouldn't miss it.

Hopefully we'll see you again some time - we would both love to return.

It’s taken me over a month to post this review and that is party because we had such an amazing time it’s been hard to find ways to put it into words.

So in short, if you are looking for a quiet, restful, relaxing break alone – or with a significant other – the Tavira Inn is the only place to go in the Algarve.

It is completely unpretentious and yet a lot of thought and creativity has gone into its decoration. Best of all it has the personal touches that leave most five star hotels for dead.

Sebastiao is the perfect host – 20 years experience managing hotels has meant he has a sixth sense of what his guests need and yet without any of the fussy pretension you would get in a five star hotel. Rather he is cordial, relaxed and plenty of fun!!

The pool is fantastic. Don’t be put off by the train going over head. It only goes past once every couple of hours and we kind of liked the combination of lying on your back in the swimming pool while the city briefly flies over head.

Niether should prospective guests be put off by paying by wire transfer. It is the most cost efficient way for the Tavira Inn and realitively hassel free to do yourself. Most importantly, it ensures that the Tavira Inn can remain the intimate, special place it is.

Also, remember to ask for things. Sebastiao has something like 20 years experience running exclusive hotels and is not adverse to taking requests from guests. i.e If you are a caffeine addict like me and need coffee first thing in the morning, just ask him for a kettle to put in your room (I did not think to do this until the day we left!)

It's a truly special place. We had the time of our lives – and will definitely be returning!

A really pleasant stay at a very individual hotel. If you like the normal, commercial type of hotel, with kids running around and a pool full of people, this is not the place for you. Quiet ( apart from the ocassional train, which actually adds to the whole experience ) and full of character, with a lovely little sea-water pool mostly to yourself. Very relaxing! Thank you Sebastian.

Another lovely few days at casa do rio. Tavira was packed with people but Sebastian's was a peaceful oasis. Highlight was the aquataxi out to the island - a bit expensive at €30 return but avoided the queues and crowds.

A quiet house, nice for calm vacations in Algarve, from there you can go to almost anywhere without a car!

My husband and I stayed at the The Tavira Inn for 2 weeks in June 2007. The Inn is a great place to stay. The rooms are beautifully decorated and very clean. Its a real bonus having the saltwater pool when the weather is hot. The Inn is very close to Tavira centre (5 minutes walk) and has a very peaceful feel to it. Ideal for couples wanting to get away from it all. Tavria itself is a romantic, laid back town with lovely resteraunts and a fabulous beach. We'd highly recommend coming to Tavria and staying at the Tavira Inn. Thanks for taking such good care of us Sebastiao. Cat and Yan.

Hi, Sebastiao,

We're so sorry not to have said goodbye to you before leaving. We had a wonderful time in Casa do Rio and of course we will write a super review for trip adviser. As a matter of fact, it was the reviews on that website that decided us to visit your wonderful inn. Thank you for being so welcoming and also for all your expert advice on restaurants, etc. Our batteries have been truely recharged! Could you please say a special 'hello' to Jean Maria. He is an adoarble boy and you have to be so proud of him. He will be signing autographs in the the not so distant future and we will be saying...''we know that young man!'' Also, please remember us to Kat and Jean. Unfortunately we did not say our goodbyes to them....they are such a lovely couple and we had such fun with them! We wish you the best of luck with the rest of the season in Casa do Rio. We will be thinking of you often and remembering with absolute fondness our wonderful stay with you. We will definitely do it again.....next time I'll do my practice!

With love and best wishes,

What a wonderful find! Our stay in Tavira couldn't have been better, largely thanks to having a great host like Sebastiao, who made us feel completely at home in his beautiful and very original house. The pool and garden were a real treat at the end of a hard day sightseeing. Our room was tasteful and spacious and we slept so well on the comfortable latex mattress that it was hard to drag ourselves back to city life. Thank you Sebastiao, hope to see you again very soon! Tavira Inn is the place to stay for a relaxing break in a traditional unspoilt fishing town. A wonderful house full of character, Great host and excellent bar. Don't be put off by paying through Bank Transfer/ Western Union. It was easy to arrange the payment and Sebastiao will e mail you confirmation. Several cafe's to choose from for breakfast within 5 minutes walk. Recommend you try the "Beira Rio" Resturant on other side of river. Also the Tea Pot Cafe on Rua da Liberdade (Home made cakes!). What can one say about staying at the Tavira Inn? Ah yes, once you've stayed you will want to keep coming back to enjoy the delights of the Inn and its excellent host Sebastiao.

And what about Tavira itself? I'm reluctant to praise its many wonderful aspects as I want to keep it as it is....but then that would be very selfish....and its good to share! Can't wait to return to enjoy Tavira's people, river, sea, beach, food................

Staying in the Tavira Inn was really like a home away from home. Sebastiao was a wonderful host and readily offered advice and information on anything and everything. We've seldom slept in a more comfortable bed and it was great to have such a spacious room and bathroom. The pool was a welcome extra at the end of a long hard day on the beach and the superb bar an additional pull in the evening - if you could get yourself back from those fabulous Tavira restaurants in time. Both Tavira town and Tavira Inn are completely delightful. We'd love to return.

The Tavira Inn was our favorite place in Portugal. If you are only going to go to one place in Portugal this is it. The room was great, the pool was amazing and the jazz bar was so much fun. The owner Sebastio really put his heart and soul into the Inn and it shows. I would go back in a heart beat. I HIGHLY recommend the Tavira Inn.

Outstanding place to stay. Sebastiao is a very friendly host. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. all up, tavira is a lovely place. we enjoyed it so much we ended up staying at sebby's inn a 3rd night!

i only hope that tavira doesn't become too commercialised and lose it's "quaint town" appeal. plus they need to ensure it still represents good value for money for tourists, which currently i think it does.

sebby, congrats on portugal beating england. i look foward to the next world cup. thanks for your hospitality. cheers!

we stayed @ Tavira Inn in August 2005 for 3 nights & had a good time in Tavira. The room was clean & spacious, the pool was nice for a dip after walking back from town(5-10 mins)& we would recommend it for a relaxing few days. The town itself was nice, we didn't see an 'English Restaurant' anywhere, which makes a nice a change. Our 6 year old daughter loved the beach & the boat ride to it.

We were in Tavira for the 3 day market in April which is a great time to visit. The town had a great atmosphere with music and a wide range of stalls with art, crafts, and lots of tempting food. Desserts and cakes are a real treat in Portugal generally but in Tavira was a particularly good in this regard. Look out for Dom Rodriges - you won't stop eating them.

Tavira is a good base to travel around the Eastern Algarve - Santa Luzia was a favourite.

Finally, Sebastiao is such welcoming host and do enjoy the bar; it is real treat. Enjoy!

Tavira Inn - a real gem of a bijoux hotel - a welcome antidote to the impersonal surroundings of other larger hotels. Sebastiao, rightly proud of the relaxing and comfortable haven he has lovingly created, assures you of a wam welcome and it's up to you how private or sociable you want to be. Tavira town itself is beautiful and unspoilt and, unlike other parts of the Algarve, is little changed since we last visited 10 years ago. For many year (since 1997, to be precise) we have been coming to Tavira now. And every time we stayed in the Tavira Inn, also known as Casa Do Rio.
We never regretted our decision for this house, this garden, this pool and (especially) this bar. And now there is new hope: maybe the Tavira Inn will soon have its
own pianist ...
See you next year.

Have just returned from a very enjoyable stay in the lovely town of Tavira, and the equally lovely Casa do Rio. Thank you Sebastiao for being such a welcoming host and sharing your home with us. I was sorry we couldn't stay longer than the 3 nights and hope to return in the near future. You are very lucky to live in such a lovely place and I wish you every success for the coming season. Tavira Inn was the most beautifull little place you could ever imagine! It´s a paradise hotel for real=) Really enjoyed it, it was cosy and not to close to the city but still close enough to walk where ever you want to.

Ah what can we say that others haven't. Sebastiao has created a microcosm of his own kind of art along with some wonderful art of others - we especially liked the two gigantic masks that grace the hallway and bar respectively. His daughter's paintings are a pleasure and while we didn't meet Jao Marie his young son, we felt honored to learn of his talent and future. Ilha Tavira was a pleasure even in winter. Tavira Inn was a pleasure for all seasons.

Tavira Inn - a great spot to stop on a European holday to revive - fantastic host Sebastiao makes you feel welcome and gives you his personal recommendations etc.- great restaurants -short trip to Seville a good spot to relax and unwind to constrast with the other end of the Algarve and "busy hotels" - we have this one on our to "re-visit list" when in Europe. Flights from Faro to UK make it easily accessible.

I stayed in this hotel in September 2005

We've been at Tavira Inn for the second time. It was the same boomerang effect as the last time (4 years ago): We started our trip at Tavira Inn and after a few days in other areas of the Algarve and the Alentejo we had to come back to this beautiful and calm place.
Lying at the pool, taking a boat trip to the beach, going out for dinner into the town and after that coming back to Tavira Inn having a drink at the Jazz bar under the pool, what do you need more?

October, 2005.

If you like 'laid back', then look no further than Tavira and Sebastiao's amazing little Inn, anymore laid back and they would fall over. Sebastiao is the perfect host and goes out of his way to make your stay in Tavira a memorable one. The hotel is perfectly situated on the river bank, only a short walk from the town centre and its lovely mix of bars and restaraunts, the beach is a little further but well worth the walk. The guest rooms and the bar area are very comfortable and the individual decor in each reflects the artistic nature of the host.
If you want to see the real Algarve, turn right at Faro airport and head for Sebastiaos in Tavira.

Tavira Inn is an urban contradiction - situated on a beautiful old tidal river where the occasional jet ski is ridden past - home to lunch at 2 or back to work at 5. The quiet street is shattered by the occasional sewing-machine motor bike with no exhaust. The railway lines hang on the bridge above to support the occasional train as it thunders by (not after dark). Then there is the red garage door to access the well stocked late night bar where the travel weary visitors share stories. And the salt-water pool, sun lounges and roof-tile lamp shades. Finally Sebastiao, his story is amazing and his passion for food, wine and music. The recommended restaurants are equal to the best anywhere in the world. This sleepy little town transforms into a holiday bonanza and yet at the Tavira Inn time stands still.

Hi Sabastiao

Thankyou. We had a wonderful time staying at Tavira Inn and would recommend
you to any of our friends.

We enjoyed the warmth and friendliness of your home and its wonderful art
work. I am sorry we didn't get to be entertained at the bar.

Our days were spent completely chilled out in that wonderful sleepy old 13th
century town of Tavira, on the beach or in any one of the many good
restaurants/cafes the town has. We are missing tea and pastries at Mira's
in the afternoon. The 5 minute stroll into the centre of the town along the
river was enjoyable.

We particularly enjoyed the restaurants Brisa do Rio (their fish was
wonderful), Patio and Aquasul.

Tavira Inn was just what we needed. Quite relaxed atmosphere where we could
come and go without fuss.

We'll be back

Stayed at Tavira Inn again this year. We keep saying we will try somewhere different but just end up going back. The relaxation and ambience is wonderful. Lovely comfy beds, spotlessly clean, friendly host .Sebastiao is like an old friend whom you just want to keep visiting. Far preferable to the formal stuffy atmosphere of a lot of high rise hotels. You are not going to hear someone in the room upstairs dragging furniture accross the floor at 6 o clock in the morning just calm and serenity. Now where shall we go next year?

We stayed at the Tavira Inn August 2005 for 2 weeks. We had a wonderful time and would recommend the Tavira Inn. It was a short walk to the centre of town as promised. Our room was comfortable and Sebastiao was a great host. He gave us lots of information about places to visit for day trips . We spent a couple of afternoons by the pool very quiet and relaxing. We also visited sebastiao's wonderful bar a few times. The Inn has a wonderful relaxing atmosphere and we would not hesitate to stay there again in the future. We had not been to Portugal before this visit but fell in love with Tavira. We made many friends during our stay and hope to return before the end of the year.

Thanks again Sebastiao

Thanks again Sebastiao for your hospitality ! Since this is the second time i've stayed at Tavira Inn in a month I guess that's a pretty good indication that I love the place ! Again I would have to mention the wonderful pool which is a fantastic way to cool of on those hot Portugese afternoons . The beds are the other nice point ... very very comfortable ... it took a LOT of motivation to get me out of the bed in the mornings ...!! Despite all the rooms being taken this time , it still feels as though you have the guesthouse to yourself sometimes . When you do meet the other guests , around the pool or in the fantastic jazz bar , it's always interesting and fun . For the 2 weeks I was there I met guests from USA , Australia , Finland , Norway , UK , Northern Ireland etc ... Never a dull moment . I had a really wonderful stay again and look forward to the next time .
P.S.
Sebastiao , I know that Joao Maria's football team is Benfica , but tell him I was in a restaurant in Lisbon and 4 players from Sporting Lisboa came in : Liedson , Polga , Deivid and Rogerio ( All Brazilians I think ) . I look forward to the next time we meet .

Just back from Portugal, having spent 3 days at the Tavira Inn. Tavira itself, is a lovely old town retaining much of its original character, accommodating tourists without becoming too commercialised. From the harbour on the river to the castle above the town, there's lots to see. There's also a wide choice of restaurants.
The Inn lived up to all our expectations: a wonderful host; quiet, secluded setting, yet within 3 minutes walk of the town centre; relaxing, seawater swimming pool, surrounded by plants, shrubs and trees, providing shade if needed; and an amazing late evening bar!

Hi Sebastiao,
A big thank you from myself and Rosie for a fabulous week with you in Tavira. The most memorable parts of our stay with you were my morning and evening swims in your superb salt water pool..so much more refreshing than those heavily chlorinated holiday brochure affairs. It really is a little oasis that you have built. I also loved our balcony overlooking the river by the railway bridge which encouraged us to take a train from Tavira along the length of the Algarve to the wonderful town of Lagos. I believe that that Tavira is a very special place and I was extremely impressed with the way that much needed new development respects the historical fabric of the town. I'm glad that we found you and I consider Tavira to be the perfect base to discover the beautiful Algarve. Thanks for your generous hospitality and for making us feel so welcome especially in your jazz bar. Regards Robert and Rosie Poierce

What a wonderful place ! Casa do Rio / Tavira Inn was the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the beautiful town of Tavira . The inn's owner Sebastiao is a great host , giving his guests plenty of space whilst being on hand if there were any questions or needs of advice . The saltwater pool was a wonderful way of cooling down in what can be very hot weather in eastern Algarve . What really impressed me was that this wasn't a hotel where you're waited on hand and foot ... This is a place where you're in a pleasant room , have the facilities of a nice pool , and are , importantly , left alone . Sebastiao's into his Jazz and opens a late night bar if guests are interested . The town is only about 5 minutes walk and has plenty of great bars and restaurants ( Try Patrick's Bar for a few beers chatting with locals and tourists .. very friendly . ) . it's a testament to Sebastiao that a lot of his guests come from USA , Canada , Australia etc... These guys can be hard to please .

Sebastiao , I enjoyed every minute of my stay at your house and I will be back !! Good luck .. Boa Sorte !

Say Hi to Joao Maria ... Nice kid .

My wife and I enjoyed several nights at Tavira Inn, as did my Uncle some weeks later. The Inn is a cosy place to stay, well located for local restaurants etc and Sebastiao is a polite and welcoming host (with excellent English language skills). About 30 mins by car from Faro airport, Tavira is a quiet and charming place to stay. Just outside of town, you can easily walk in to the sentre, and still you are in the quiet area for a good nights sleep. 5 girls together, we where busy laughing. I can really recommend Tavira Inn, and Tavira town is just beautiful, relaxed and cool! We met many interesting people there.

Hi Sebastian!

Thank you very much for having us this late a year. As you might have
understood we had a great time. I haven't laughed this much in two years I
think.
Tavira is a wonderful place, and so was your house. Perfect, and very well
taken care of by you. The morning we left was a bit chaotic, and when we
couldn't find a pen, we where not able to write in your guest-book. However,
I will be more than happy to leave a review on your site.

Hope to be back soon,

Ida & the girls
xx

Hi Sebastiao, Just to say Thanks for your warm welcome to your home and to Tavira. We enjoyed both very much especially the view of your enchanted jungle garden from our balcony and also we enjoyed the bar with your excellent choice of laid back music. Take care and will see again.

Hi Sebastio!
Thank you for your hospitality last week. We enjoyed our stay in Tavira, with its fantastic beach and excellent restaurants. We also discovered pastelarias for the first time - a very pleasant experience! As yesterday was one of those rare rainy days on the Algarve, we were pleased you were able to let us keep our room until we left for the airport.
Best Regards

Dear Sebastiao,
I expect your booking year is now coming to a close.
I said I would send you a review that also included Tavira.
Sorry for the delay.
Please find it attached .
When we look back on our holiday which included a week in Spain - your
place stands out as something special.
It was very relaxing.
Look forward to seeing you again.
regards,

Really enjoyed our time in Tavira. The town is very pleasant with the focus on the river that runs through it Also churches and a ruined castle with gardens to visit. The restaurants are excellent and very reasonably priced.
On the Ilha you have a choice of a surfing beach with excellent sands or a quiet side with a lovely beach where you can watch the boats go up and down and little crabs in the shallows – bliss.
Then it is back to the Casa Rio. An excellent base. Loved the pool. Had a really lovely room . And of course the legendry bar. Met some very nice people there. What more can you want having eaten in a good restaurant than to have a beer with good company listening to jazz.
Thank you again Sebastiao. Hope to see you again in the not too distant future.

Hi Sebastiao,
how are you?
We are very cold and damp over here.
We have already booked flights for next year, we are bringing 2 friends. Is it possible to book 2 rooms from the 28th September 2005 for 7 nights departing 5th October?
What is your rate for next year.

Hi Sebastiao,

Keep thinking about our last week in Tavira in July , I was tempted to go back in August as well it was so enjoyable and of course the highlight was your bringing us to that lovely Fish restaurant at Cacelha.
Every day last week I thought of your place, definitely the nicest and warmest place we've stayed in Tavira.
Looking forward to our next trip.

Hello Sebastiao,
We are home again! We arrived last night after a long day of traveling.
This is just a brief note to thank you for the wonderful time we had in Tavira. The only unfortunate thing is that we did not spend more time there. When we come to Portugal again, we will be certain to have more time to visit all of the wonderful sites we missed. Best wishes, and muito obrigado.

What a great find! Tavira appears untouched by mass tourism. Sebastio, you're an excellent & informative host. The Picasso room was comfortable & tastefully decorated & the location was most convenient allowing us to stroll in & out of Tavira easily. We particularly enjoyed our nightcaps in the bar!

Obrigadinhos Sebastiao ! Até à proxima !

We started our Algarve holiday at Tavira Inn and had a wonderful 3 days at this serene, one-of-a-kind place. I knew little about the Algarve before our trip & picked Tavira by chance and am so glad...it was the most atmospheric of the places we stayed and so refreshingly unspoiled by megadevelopment. Sebastiao's great inn delivers on its promise of intimate yet sophisticated 'vibe' and the terrace pool and guests-only bar were special places to be away from it all. The Tavira Inn is special. It is run by a special person - Sebastaio - who makes you feel very welcome from the instant you arrive, and whos passion for his oasis of tranquility shines through. It is in a special place - Tavira - a superb base for a weekend's exploration around 'authentic' Algarve. My recommendation would be to catch Tavira while it still oozes with charm and character. Don't bother looking for expensive hotels - they wouldn't come anywhere near the quality of stay that you will receive at Sebastaio's Tavira Inn!

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday on the Algarve staying at Tavira Inn. Tavira is a small, typical Portugese town set on both sides of the river. Take a quiet stroll through the town, see the sights and soak up the atmosphere. Tavira Inn is run by the extovert Sebastiao who will recommend which local restaurant to visit for your evening meal (the fish is especially good). Afterwards enjoy a drink, a chat and listen to Sebastiao,s wonderful jazz collection in his bar with his other guests from countries such as Australia, America, Germany, Norway and Gibraltar

Thanks for the warm welcome at the Tavira Inn Sebastian! We enjoyed our stay immensely and thought Tavira itself was a gem of a place - we do hope the Portugese keep it that way. The Tavira Inn is so stylish and we love the way you've succeeded in combining the traditional and the contemporary - the sun umbrellas in the Jazz Bar particularly! The only think on my wish list would be a kettle and a coolbox in the bedroom. Many thanks - we enjoyed your company and that of your other lovely guests.

Excellent host, very welcoming and hospitable. Good location 5 minutes walk to centre. Tavira is a historic, pretty fishing town benefiting from tourism but relatively unaffected by the overdevelopment so prevalent elsewhere on the Algarve.

We loved staying at Casa del Rio in Tavira, Sebestio was a great host and we enjoyed swimming in the seawater pool . The Funky Jazz Bar was also cool and we met some fine, intersting people there and had lively conversations. Tavira itself has fine character and we enjoyed leisurely days wandering in and out and discovering places to eat and drink. We especially enjoyed the walk up to the old castle ruins and churches and the views of the town from above. The short boat trip to the isla was also an enjoyable experience. Our only complaint was that the sea was too cold

Inma.

We stayed at the Tavira Inn for five nights in July of this year. The hotel was everything the website had led us to expect, and more. The only comment we would make is that Sebastiao is not really as old as he looks in the website photo! The hotel is a short walk to Tavira, its many excellent restaurants, and the ferry to the wonderful beach. Look out for the Sunshine Bar on the beach...they play the greatest music, including daily doses of Madredeus, a superb Portuguese group. We will definitely return to Tavira, and when we do there is nowhere else we would consider staying than chez Sebastiao.

Dear Sebastiao, just a quick note to say thank you so much for a fantastic time. Your inn is truly unique, private, and funky. The rooms are gorgeously furnished and the bathroom great, the pool is fabulous and overall the place could not be more relaxing nor its host more welcoming. I warned you I was a critic, so I ahve jsut three small comments to make: it would be good if you advertised that children are not allowed and that rooms have air conditioning. A fridge would be fantastic, as though the bar is great, opening times are limited and it is hard to keep water cool. Til next time, molto obrigada,

Sebastiao's lively web site gives you a very good picture of this friendly and comfortable place to stay. We particularly enjoyed cooling off in the pool after a day out. Hi Sebastiao, Just a note to say again how much we enjoyed our stay. You have created a really unique and charming place, and we will happily recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the Algarve. Tavira is a nice and sleepy town, with a few tourists like us, but not the hordes you find elsewhere, and it's nowhere near as tacky as the resort towns. You're a great host, too, and made our time there very special. We enjoyed visiting your house, and Maeve particularly appreciates the care you showed her when she was ill. Thanks again, and we hope to come back sometime in the next few years. Jim Whittle P.S. The one suggestion I have for the place is maybe a vending machine selling coffee and/or water.

This is a great place to stay. Very relaxing and easy to walk into Tavira, the unspoilt town. Easy access to Quinta da Ria golf course, which is why I came to this part of Algarve for a few days. Would have no hesitation to go back to a place that feels home from home. A great pool and bar, and no problem with the trains, in fact they are a novelty.

Dear Sebastiao, We have just arrived back in Australia and have now written an entry in your guest book about your wonderful place. We also had a wonderful time in Lisbon. It reminded us of San Francisco in the USA with the trams and the views to the Tejo River. We also enjoyed Cascais and Sintra very much. Obidos town was a fantastic site but not a real living town like Tavira. You can read Neville's travel stories which includes Tavira ( story number 5) on ( Copy and past to your browser ) http://www.bootsnall.com/travelogues/neville/5.shtml. Read the other stories as well .You can refer people to it if you wish. I will send the seeds in a few weeks time and thanks again for being a genuine and relaxed host. Tavira Inn is a rare gem of a place for travellers located in a very special authentic town in the Algarve. Sebastiao shares his home with you and that is the critical difference and explains the special care and attention to every detail; decore, salt water pool, bar with umbrellas and for us Aussies- a developing eucalypt forest and the smell of gum leaves to remind us of home.A very special place to come back to when we can and to also recommend enthusiatically to other travellers.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Seb's Tavira Inn from 23 May until 28 of May 2003! Our accomodation was superb and the entire Inn is absolutely wonderful. Seb has done an outstanding job with the furnishings, decorating and maintaining this marvelous Inn, not to mention the planning and construction of the Pool & Bar! His style and atomsphere is fun, interesting and friendly, and with quite humorous character. You will feel it everywhere. We were quite happy that we chose the town of Tavira for our first visit to the Algarve. With the new magnificent roadway A-2 we were able to visit the southern coast in it's entirety without spending much time on the driving. It took us just over an hour to make it to the very Southwestern point of Sagres. Tavira was a perfect town for us as it offered everything, but most importantly still had it's charm and was not over-commercialized. We found fantastic seafood restaurants, a wonderful market, beautiful walks around the castle and it's many churches, very friendly people and a nice beach! We miss it already! Thanks, Sebastiao!

We had a wonderful stay at the Tavira Inn! We really appreciate how quaint and how CLEAN everything was; the rooms were lovely and we loved sitting on the balcony looking over the river. Tavira was our favorite town in Portugal. We stayed the last three nights at a 5 star resort in Albufeira and longed to be back in Tavira. Hello Maestro Sebastião, Rita & I still have very fond memories of our trip to Spain and Portugal (May-June, 2000), and we especially enjoyed our stay at your fine Tavira Inn. We only wished we could have stayed longer, but we were on a road trip. We live in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and Tavira, Portugal, is a long ways away. There's a whole world we would still like to see, but if we ever have the pleasure to travel to Portugal again, we would not hesitate to find our way to the Tavira Inn. I see you've changed the name from "Casa Do Rio" to "Tavira Inn". I've added a link on our Spain/Portugal (Tavira) webpage to http://www.tavira-inn.com (see http://www.azevedo.ca/20000521/tavira.htm) It was very nice (and a surprise) to hear from you. Tavira is a gem of Portugal - not too developed, with a great beach, even in March if the weather is good! Great food at sensible prices and a wonderfully happy and obliging host. We will meet again!

What an unusual and tasteful hotel. We had a marvellous time and look forward to returning soon. The restaurant recommendations from Sebastio were invaluable. Tavira is so unspoilt with a charm all of its own. After years of visiting the Western Algarve we wish we had discovered Tavira sooner. Sebastio's suggestion to visit Seville was also inspired. He is a talking guidebook!!
